People experiencing socioeconomic deprivation have a higher prevalence and an increased severity of long-term health conditions. Meanwhile, healthcare professionals have reported finding the management of multiple long-term conditions challenging. General practice budgets per patient in deprived and non-deprived areas is the same, meaning there are relatively fewer resources for practices in deprived areas.
This research will explore the additional complexity placed on general practices within deprived areas. The aim is to increase effectiveness of self-management interventions and strategies for people experiencing socioeconomic deprivation with multiple long-term conditions in primary care. If successful, this research will help enable better quality of life for people experiencing socioeconomic deprivation and reduce burden on primary care.
